It's complicated
I got the highest marks in the presentation part as well as the
essay writing part of my course English communication.Another student (let us
call him X) was there in my class who
got the lowest in both the presentation and the essay. Final grades: Sidhant-B,
X-A. Because X crammed up stuff and vomited it out in the exam so he got a
better grade. This is the sorry state even in one of the top notch universities
of the country. So how can you expect students to think out of the box and
innovation to happen in the country if it is all about cramming up stuff and
winning the rat race. I am not saying that I deserved a better grade than X.
But if the course is on communication
and you allot just 20% marks to the
practical part and 80% to cramming up the slides, then how do you expect
students to innovate? Actually I guess I would be the only student in the
class who took some practical knowledge
from the course and started writing blogs. But who cares? I didn’t cram up the
slides as well as X did.
Well when the semester started, I came in with an expectation of
absolute 10 SGPA. After mid semester exams, the expectation came down to 9.
After major exams it came down to 8. Final SGPA- 7.82
Last semester when I came, I had just gone through a bad break up
so I was aiming at just getting the passing marks. Final SGPA- 9.4
The bottom line is, go in with no expectations.
This story is also about Sonali (the engaged chick) and a guy (not
me, not even her husband). It is very complicated (at least for me to
comprehend, it is very difficult) but still I would try to narrate the story to
you. I would be narrating the story from
Sonali’s point of view. So lets begin.
START OF STORY
DISCLAIMER
All characters in this story are fictitious. Any resemblance to any
person living or dead is purely coincidental.
So I was at Rhea’s place when I met Mickey (fictitious name) for
the first time. I was dating Saurabh (my future husband). We didn’t interact
much. I had heard that he was a womanizer so I maintained my distance.
A couple of months later, I and Rhea went to Australia for our
higher studies. Mickey was also in Australia for his studies. We guys moved into
the same apartment.
One night we guys were talking till late at night and then Mickey
said that he would bring a mattress and sleep in our room for the night. After
sometime Rhea fell asleep but we kept talking. Mickey came and sat on the bed because
the floor was cold. I don’t know what happened but I think that we were a few drinks
down and we ended up making out.
We started making out secretly from then onwards. Rhea got a hint
and told us that she had a back problem so she would sleep on the mattress and
Mickey can sleep on the bed. We just used to wait for Rhea to fall asleep and
then we used to make out all night long. We were practically in a live in relationship
which was wrong on my part because I had a boyfriend. But it was fun and I just
wanted to go with the flow.
After that Mickey got into a relationship (he was always in a
relationship but a serious one this time) and I was done with my course so I
had to move back to India. We gradually lost touch. He got preoccupied with his
life and I with mine. And then I got married and moved to Dubai.
Recently, I got a call from him inviting me to come to his marriage.
I was adamant at first about not going but then my husband said that he is a
great friend of mine and I should go (he doesn’t know about anything else).
So I am back in India for his wedding. I saw him yesterday at the
cocktail party and a lot of emotions gushed through me. I guess it was because
of nostalgia. Mickey is a very passionate guy, he is like the prince in the
fairy tales. I am a very romantic person so I always wanted someone like him.
My husband is a great guy, he cares for me and the family (dog included). But
he is becoming monotonous. He comes back from the office, watches TV and then
goes to sleep around 10. The other day I asked him what his passion was and he
said earning money. Mickey was actually passionate about me. Mickey is a great
lover but I guess my husband is a great homemaker. I am not even thirty so right
now I actually need a lover. Maybe five to ten years down the line I would be
more inclined towards the homemaker side.
So after the cocktail party, it was late so we crashed at Rhea’s
place. Mickey called me up and asked me to meet him near the stairs. He said “I
always missed you”. But I said “You are a Casanova. You say that to every girl”.
He swore upon his mother, hugged me and kissed me on the forehead.
I tried telling Rhea but girls are bitches. She didn’t want to
talk about it. Instead to pinch me she shows me every time Mickey and his bride
are intimate. So that is why I am sharing it with this lame ass writer because
he claims that ‘he has nothing else to do’.
Mickey is getting married tomorrow. He officially got married in
Japan about a year ago but they are doing a formal wedding in India. I don’t
know how I would feel about it. I always loved him and will always love him but
all love stories don’t end in ‘happily ever after’.
THE END
So the story was way too complicated for me, maybe because I don’t
believe in love but most of the love stories I know have abrupt endings.
