Artist's Conundrum
So, the biggest issue which 'we artists' encounter is, after delivering one masterpiece, the stage gets set quite high, and expectations of the audience paramount to new heights, now that puts unnecessary peer pressure on the next piece, as it needs to outperform its sibling. Another dilemma an artist encounters is the timing of the next piece; it shouldn't be too early so that it doesn't eat into the glory of the previous piece, it shouldn't be too late, as public memory is quite short span. The term I have coined for this is, 'Artist's Conundrum.' Needless to say, this term is copyright protected by me, and you need my written permission before using it.
A friend of mine had once told me that Mumbai has something for everyone, for me as a blogger that has turned out to be entirely accurate, there was a time (refer to blog post 'dry state'), when I thought that my blog has terminal cancer, and is going to die, Mumbai has come as an elixir and made it 'score' like Lance Armstrong did, post cancer. I have been in Mumbai for almost a month now. Personally, I didn't find it acutely better than Delhi, but I am a guy, and I was born and brought up there, so my opinion might be biased. Also, I am too complacent to go and explore the city. A couple of noticeable differences, English songs are played in bars and restaurants, not every night is a 'Bollywood Night.' The traffic is congested, my office is a kilometer away from my flat, in the evenings, no matter how tiring my day has been, I walk back because if I take a cab, it will take me at least an hour to reach home. Despite the stuck up traffic, everyone drives in their lanes, something rarely seen in Delhi. But still, 'Dilli' has its charm, and a comparison amongst the two cities wouldn't be fair to any of them.
Coming to the muse of the blog post, as soon as I heard her name, it was like 'love at first sound.' And the best part is that her appearance compliments her impeccably beautiful name, which I later found out that her grandmother had chosen (the name). She is the most 'gorgeously cute' (2nd term coined) girl, I have ever met. And then, she does the coolest job I have heard of in a long time; she designs the interiors of stores. To exemplify, if supposedly Levi's Jeans stores have to decide on what theme to have in their stores for the valentine's day, they pay her. She is handling all the stores in western Mumbai and Gujrat.
Anyway, I wasn't hiring her for a job, it was a date, so coming to the attraction bit. They say (no one knows who 'they' are) that 'opposites attract.' I am a person who can't appreciate nature's beauty, architectural beauty, or any beauty which doesn't have the capability to appreciate me back (self-obsession 101), so I hate traveling and don't go anywhere unless it is absolutely a necessity. Just to give an example, this is the first time I have come to Mumbai, not just that, this is the first time I saw the sea, and I was like 'Okay, now what?'. Anyway, contrary to me, she loves to travel, explore new places, even if she has no company.
We went to a bar, the music inside was loud, and the weather was pleasant, so we took a table in the open. We ordered food, she is the first I have met, who has nonvegetarian food, but just seafood, not chicken or meat, generally it is the other way round. There was a foosball table kept in the bar. She asked if I knew how to play, although I haven't ever played it all my life, still I replied in the affirmative with full confidence (MBA 101), just to spend more time with her. We went to play, but as the table was 'tilted,' and she was at an 'unfair disadvantage,' so we halted our nail-biting face-off, where the ball barely moved. When the check came, we decided to split it (hardcore feminist, I am), gave both our cards to the waiter, he instantly took out a smartphone from his pocket, with a card in the other hand to swipe it using his phone. I thought this was it; a next invention is the time machine, only to find out that he took out his phone to divide the bill amount which was anyway a multiple of hundred, by two, people are getting so tech savvy these days.
We chatted about almost everything, from our work to our nostalgic college moments. The music playing in the backdrop was quite soothing, and although I had slept for barely four hours the night before, was up since 6 in the morning. Still, I didn't want to leave her side, even when it was almost midnight.
Is this it, is she the one? Well, our 'date' ended with a high five, and later I got a text from her saying
'Buddy, I have reached home. I had a great time.'
The game goes on; an artist is alive only till his art is alive.
