Game Night
Someone recently commented, "I wonder this obsession of yours to write this blog will leave you lonely forever." Now, this statement has two presumptions. Firstly, that I don't believe that 'Solitude is bliss.' Secondly, and more importantly, it is I who decides the fate. The blog seems like an autopsy report of the events.
Anyway, coming to the muse of the blog post. I recently went to Mumbai to visit some friends. There is something about that city which draws me; I haven't been able to chalk what that is exactly. Is it the people or the vibe or the whole atmosphere? I don't quite know. It was a Saturday night, and I was out in a bar with my friend. I was standing by the bar, ordering my 'drink.' I noticed two girls standing by the bar. One of them quite starkly caught my attention. I don't know whether it was her irresistible looks or her engaging body language, I knew I had to talk with her.
I went up to her, stood with one hand on the bar counter. I asked in a husky voice what she does. She told me that she is a chemical scientist. I could figure out that she wasn't one. I thought that she is blowing me off, so I backed off a bit. After a couple of minutes, she asked me, "Do you know what a paua means?" I told her that it means a 250 ml drink. She had one, I, on the other hand, was having Redbull. She asked me as to why I am not drinking. I said, "I don't consume liquor on a 'game' night." She took a moment, leaned in, and whispered in my ear "Even after victory." And I thought that I am good with words.
She walked towards her table, and I joined them uninvited. As it turns out, she is not a chemical scientist and was just kidding. She was working with a PR firm and had recently quit her job. We exchanged numbers, and then I left as their friends were joining them in some time. I texted her the next morning (6-hour rule), we exchanged normal greetings. As I am not a big fan of texting, I asked her if she wanted to meet up for dinner. As it turns out, she doesn't like eating out in restaurants on the weekends as they tend to get quite crowded. She called me over to her place instead.
Now, if someone calls you over, you take a pleasantry like a wine bottle. That is a normal courtesy; I forgot to take anything. To be fair to me, I was too excited, so it slipped my mind. Her place had the perfect ambiance with scented candle lights and dimmed lighting. She was looking quite cute in her pyjamas and floaters. We had dinner, and thankfully, she wasn't banking on me for the wine. After dinner, we decided to sit on the couch as everywhere else in the house the walls were paper thin.
What then? Well, I talked to her quitting the job. It was her last night in Mumbai (not mine), was moving back to her hometown and was supposed to get married within a month. She had preferred spending it with me over a male model; she met a couple of days back. Post dinner, I came back within the next hour. The wine bottle isn't the only thing which I forgot taking.
